CaturMalaysia is the brainchild of Zamri Abdullah who register the domain caturmalaysia.com and created the Facebook page of caturmalaysia.com on 15 December 2016 when he attended the AGM of Malaysian Chess Federation. During that time news about chess activities in Malaysia quite scattered and unorganized.
With the introduction of the website as an event directory for chess activities in Malaysia, it become popular and attracted many followers. It become one stop center for chess information. The website was developed at first with php, where a simple program was done to list all the tournament organize by many chess organizers in Malaysia.
Then the founder decided to establish a company called CMC EMPIRE on 1 August 2017 as a partnership company with another person. CMC EMPIRE decided to explore new opportunity which it started organizing a chess tournament.
In July 2018, the partner in CMC EMPIRE wish to withdraw due to commitment. This is the start of CMC CHESS, a new entity which solely owned by the founder of CaturMalaysia. The company was established on 30 July 2018 with company registration number 002866988-H.
The company has further develop by having online tournament registration for chess tournament organized by CMC CHESS. A centralized system which help the organizer to keep track of the player registration with the ability to approve registration based on receipt attached.
18 December 2018, in a Whatsapp group originally was called “Friend of CMC” which joined by several independent chess organizer, the idea of a new establishment has been introduce. The society was originally called ICON (Independent Chess Organizer Network). On 21 December 2018, the name has been changed to MYICON where additional MY was appended to the front to indicate Malaysia, hence the full name Malaysian Independent Chess Organizer Network. Till this day, CMC CHESS is still part of the core team of MYICON which consist of 4 individual members which are Zamri Abdullah (CMC CHESS), Izani Asri and Sendy Yanti (both from Kelab Catur Elite 18), and Emran Mohd Tamil who move independently.
On 26 November 2019, CMC CHESS took another step to include payment gateway in the registration system by integrating with SenangPay payment gateway services. This help improve the payment verification process which previously was done manually. This help organizer to be able to register more players and ensure less fraudulent transaction. It save time and less hassle that make organizer happier. With this CMC CHESS able to provide registration service to those interested.
